Yi-Li Godfrey
Yi-Li Godfrey is a captivating force where music, personal growth, and social progress converge. With expertise in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging training and facilitation, leadership development, and body-based psychotherapy, she acts as a maestro, harmonizing organizations' cultural differences to ignite their collective brilliance.
Yi-Li weaves together theory and best practices from psychology, sociology, philosophy, cultural study, history, education and communication. Her approach is further enriched by her personal lived experience as an immigrant, entrepreneur, woman of color, and mother of a multiracial child. This rich tapestry of experiences allows her to guide clients navigate complex challenges and forge a path for a thriving culture both on an individual and organizational level.
Her Chinese/Taiwanese heritage and distinguished musical background (including a Master of Music and Bachelor of Music from Juilliard, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Stony Brook University) offer a unique perspective on DEIB. Just as nature thrives on diversity, Yi-Li believes the apparent dissonance in perspectives ultimately paves the way for harmony. She equips clients with skills to navigate complex situations and courage to embrace big emotions, recognizing that diverse voices are the key to unlocking creative solutions. This approach benefits both the organization and its people.
This philosophy extends far beyond theory. As the visionary founder of both the Hoboken School of Music and The Hudson Symphony, Yi-Li translated her passion into action. The Hoboken School fosters a love for music in students of all ages, while The Hudson Symphony ensures accessibility for children from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and serves as a valuable launchpad for young, emerging artists.
Yi-Li's dedication is further exemplified by her service as a Jersey City Cultural Arts Commissioner. Her contributions were recognized with the Hudson County Woman in Business Award.
As a certified body psychotherapy practitioner, Yi-Li is passionate for fostering emotional resiliency and leadership development. She completed a rigorous four-year certification program at the Radical Aliveness Institute in Los Angeles, CA. Together with her partner, Jonathan, Yi-Li co-founded Radical Aliveness Philadelphia, where she offers individual therapy sessions and conducts transformative workshops.
Yi-Li received her training from the legendary filmmaker, author, poet, and community therapist Lee Mun Wah through his Mindful Facilitation program at StirFry Seminars & Consulting. Following her certification and internship, Yi-Li worked alongside Lee Mun Wah, training and facilitating Diversity workshops with various organizations and impacting thousands of individuals across the United States.
